Meiolania is a spectacular giant turtle equipped with cow-like horns and along tail encased in armour and spikes. There are several described species, but the best known is easily M. platyceps from Lord Howe Island. The cause of Meiolania’s extinction is currently unresolved, but I personally think it had something to do with an Italian plumber.
